6/24 LLOYD KAHN: Tiny Homes on the Move

Visit Gallery Bookshop in Mendocino on Tuesday June 24th at 6:30 PM for an event with Lloyd Kahn on his latest book, TINY HOMES ON THE MOVE.

Lloyd Kahn, pioneer of the green building movement, is editor-in-chief of Shelter Publications. Also a noted author and photographer, and former editor of the Whole Earth Catalog, Kahn's latest book is TINY HOMES ON THE MOVE.

Born in 1935, Kahn earned a BA from Stanford University and served a tour in the Air Force before turning to carpentry and construction. He developed a passion and talent for the unique and the practical, including geodesic domes, handbuilt shelters, and small homes.

During this event you'll have the opportunity to hear Lloyd talk about the Tiny Home movement, discuss ways to downsize and learn to live the tiny lifestyle, and participate in an open Q & A after the author talk. Book signing will be available after the event, and light refreshments will be served.

Tiny Homes on the Move chronicles 21st-century nomads -- people who inhabit homes that are compact and mobile, either on wheels or in the water. In photos and stories, this fascinating book explores modern travelers who live in vans, pickup trucks, buses, trailers, sailboats, and houseboats that combine the comforts of home with the convenience of being able to pick up and go at any time.

There's a grassroots movement in tiny homes these days. The real estate collapse, the economic downturn, burning out on 12-hour workdays - many people are rethinking their ideas about shelter - seeking an alternative to high rents, or a lifelong mortgage debt to a bank on an overpriced home. Homes on land, homes on wheels, homes on the road, homes on water, even homes in the trees.
