Welcome to Bookwinkle's Children's Books

Bookwinkle's Children's Books opens the doorway to reading for children in the village of Mendocino and along the North Coast of California. Located in a small rural area far from the bustle of big cities, we provide an vibrant source of quality reading materials for children, parents and teachers.

The staff of Bookwinkle's is unusually knowledgeable, even for an independent bookstore.  Katy Tahja is a credentialed school librarian who provides advice for parents, teachers, and young readers. Sally Young (sometimes known as Mrs. Bookwinkle) is the founder and former owner of Over the Rainbow, a Southern California bookstore that specialized in children's books and teaching supplies.  Joan Carlson is a retired middle school teacher who also works as a consultant to the educational publishing company Math Solutions.  And several booksellers, including owner Christie Olson Day, offer the special expertise that comes with having young children currently at home!

This is my top recommendation for readers who loved The Hunger Games. It has that same combination of rocket-fueled narrative force, big honkin' ideas, and characters that leap off the page. It takes place inside a strange prison that has been sealed for centuries ... and the prison is sentient. I can't wait to read the sequel, Sapphique. Recommended by Christie.
