Create a mouth-watering batch of your family-favorite party cupcakes\, and let the discriminating palates of Gallery Bookshop's customers and staff again test them against the rest-of-the-best the Mendocino Coast has to offer. Admission is free if you bake\, a mere $5 suggested donation (goes toward the winner's prize) if you just want to sample. No need to sign up to bake or sample. We will provide napkins\, coffee and tea. Bake-off entrants provide a serving plate and your best culinary effort. Tasters\, provide you best competition appetites.

Mick LaSalle is the film critic for the San Francisco Chronicle\, and the author of two books on the
pre-Production Code era (1929-34) of Hollywood\, Complicated Women\: Sex and Power in Pre-Code Hollywood\, and Dangerous Men\: Pre-Code Hollywood and the Birth of the Modern Man.
LaSalle will be at Gallery Bookshop on Saturday June 2nd at 3 pm to discuss his work and observations as a film critic and author. His latest book\, The Beauty of the Real (available 5/9/12) examines the new Golden Age of women's films now taking place--not here\, but in France.
LaSalle has taught at UC Berkeley extension and lectured at film festivals around the country\, and
teaches film courses at Stanford University. Between 1994 and 1999\, he was the -air film critic for KGO-TV in San Francisco. His first article for the SF Chronicle appeared on September 18\, 1985\, commemorating Greta Garbo’s 80th birthday.
